The debate about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film “PADMAVAT” is the most controversial news in present days’ Bollywood industry. It is a film based on the the history of mediaeval India (Delhi sultanate). In this movie, Sahid Kapoor has played the role as Rana Ratan Singh, Deepika Padukone as Padmavati and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. Both of the artists played an important and respectful character. From this point of view it should be a good historical movie. But the problem begins after the releasing of its first official trailer and soon it becomes a big issue in both Bollywood industry and indian politics.
At first, it was protested by the Rajput Karni Sena because of its historical background. But their main reasons of protest is somehow baseless. Actually they do not know the exact contents used in this film on which field they may protest against it. In the film “PADMAVAT”, Bhansali has tried to bring the mediaeval history in a new pattern before the audiences. If we notice the first released trailer, we may found only two dialogues that have also been told by Sahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone respectively. Those dialogues show us the glory of the Rajput empire and their brevity. Both Sahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are found at their best in such acting. But the confusion about its reality does not clear all the doubts. Let us discuss the exact historical background of this controversy.
Alauddin Khilji was one of the most popular Sultans of the mediaeval India. He captured the throne by killing his uncle Jalaluddin Khilji (the founder of Khilji dynasty) in 1296 A.D. and married his daughter. He dreamt like Alexander and wanted to bring the entire India under his kingdom and so he started his expedition to the south India. On the other hand, Rana Ratan Singh was an eminent Rajput ruler of Mewar and he had a beautiful wife named Padmavati. Alauddin Khilji came to know about the beauty of Padmavati and he was very eager to meet her. Then he wrote a letter to Ratan Singh mentioning Padmavati as his sister and expressed his wish to meet her. As the ritual Alauddin Khilji saw her beauty on a mirror and he became desparate. Then he kidnapped Ratan Singh and offered his release for the submission of Padmavati. But two of Ratan Singh’s ministers showed their skill and made their king free. This incident was very shameful for Sultan and he attacked Mewar. There was no ray of hope for the Rajput soldiers and so their wives along with queen Padmavati accepted the “JAHAR SYSTEM” and sacrificed their lives into fire. When the sultani soldiers entered in the palace the found nothing except fire and ashes.
Now we should discuss about the plot of the movie “PADMAVAT”. After a long controversy the film was released on 25th January with the name “PADMAVAT” (the former name was “PADMAVATI”)but it is banned in Gujarat and some places of Rajasthan also. In this movie, each of the actors and actresses has given their best and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has also showed his talent. There is no illogical scenes between Ranveer and Deepika except the mirror scene. Now it’s your turn to diagnose what is the reality of this controversy.
